Discreción (2022) – Luis José Ramírez Cortés

Two women rest in hammocks, floating between wakefulness and dream. Their bodies are released from everyday life, carried by a gentle rhythm. Their faces remain without features—not out of distance, but out of restraint. Discreción speaks softly.
The vibrant colors of their clothing—red, orange, blue, violet—create islands of calm within a radiant field of yellow. In the background, ochre silhouettes reveal scenes of life: people in motion, at work, together. Like distant memories, they surround the resting figures without disturbing them. What is visible recedes; the feeling remains.
Luis José Ramírez Cortés, born in Oaxaca, transforms the everyday life of Mexico into a poetic visual language. After studying at the Academy of San Carlos and completing graphic training at the University of the Arts in Warsaw, he developed a form of storytelling that honors quietness and gives space to the unspectacular. His works have been exhibited internationally and invite viewers to look more closely—and to pause in stillness.
The artist is currently collaborating with Mexhaus / Ramirez Handels, where the work is also available. A certificate of authenticity is included.
Discreción is not withdrawal,
