Who wants to break a pinata?

Hello, friends and lovers of Mexican gastronomy and culture! Do you know the history of pinatas in Mexico? Come with me to discover a little bit about this beautiful custom...

Mexican parties are characterized by traditions, whether to celebrate a birthday or at the Posada (Mexican Christmas Party), one of the most cherished traditions is to break a pinatas!

As for the origin of pinatas , it is said that the Mayas and Mexicas had a type of jar that they filled with cocoa and jewels, which were decorated with beautiful feathers that were smashed to venerate Huitzilopochtli.

Many centuries later the Spanish conquistadors reaffirmed this beautiful custom incorporating the traditions learned from the Chinese, who in the Chinese New Year used to set fire to a kind of decorated jar and people shoveled the ashes for good luck.

Pinatas as we know them flourished around the 16th century, when the monks of a small town called pinatas celebrated the Christmas holidays with pinatas.

Nowadays, piñatas are created from a clay pot or paper and cardboard. They come in a huge variety of colors, shapes and sizes. Traditionally they are filled with candy, fruit, peanuts and small toys that fall like magic when the piñata is broken.

The piñatas we have in Mexhaus are Valentina Piñatas and are made in Germany in Greifenstein. Valentina Piñatas is a company that is not only socially responsible, but also 100% regional. For the production of the piñatas they exclusively use materials from the region and they also work with the "WfbM Florentine Day Care Center of Lebenshilfe Wetzlar-Weilburg e.V," which allows people with disabilities to support them in the production of the piñatas.

We invite you to take a look at the variety of piñatas we have for you at Mexhaus, you'll love them, and we have piñata sets ready to order with all the candy you need to make your event unforgettable!
