In Mexico, as well as in some regions of Germany, the Christmas festivities do not end until the arrival of the Three Kings! Join me to discover a little more about this beautiful holiday and how we Mexicans celebrate it.

As many already know, Three Kings Day is a Catholic celebration, which refers to the visit of the Magi from the East who brought gifts and offerings to Baby Jesus. The celebration of Three Kings Day is a celebration awaited by all children! They wait every January 6th for the visit of the three wise men. They bring joy to the houses, as they arrive with gifts and toys for the children.

Another tradition during this celebration, which is more deeply rooted in Mexico, is the incomparable "Rosca de Reyes". This delicious bread begins to be sold in Mexico months before, but it is a tradition to break the donut on January 6 and accompany it with a delicious and warm frothy chocolate.

 Reyes

The tradition of the "Rosca de Reyes" began during the time of the Viceroyalty. In those times, the person who found a small doll was in charge of dressing the baby Jesus and presenting it to the church on February 2nd for Candlemas Day; he/she was also the person in charge of making a gathering with "tamales" and "atole".

The Rosca de Reyes is oval or circular in shape, is decorated with nuts and contains in its interior some dolls hidden in the bread. The tradition is preserved in many Mexican families that people who have a child in the rosca should bring tamales on Candlemas Day.

Nowadays there are many versions of Roscas de reyes, you can fill them with cream, chocolate, mermelade, cream cheese, among others. The important thing is the tradition of sharing. Let us know in the comments how you like to eat them and remember to visit our desserts and sweets section so you can find the perfect accompaniment for your Rosca this January 6th!
